Diane's Comments About SBSA

February 2014 saw the start of the most challenging and enjoyable journey of my lifetime; first day at post-secondary education. I felt proud and delighted that I got the chance to be in one of the best post-secondary schools in Seychelles. But what I did not know was that it was also going to be the hardest, most demanding, as well as most memorable 3 years of my life yet.

I was afraid at first; afraid of the new subjects and terrified that I would not meet my own expectations!

Adapting to the new subjects and lecturers was not so hard; being spoon fed was over and I now had to take my own responsibility of understanding, asking questions when I was confused and ensuring that I was paying good attention. Different yes… but not hard when you’re surrounded by good and supportive friends. There really are no words to describe my love for the experience as a whole. The lecturers were so caring and helpful, they made sure we all knew they would always be there to support us. They were the ones who worked hard to ensure that what was being taught to us were sticking in our thick, coconut-shelled minds. If it was not for my loving lecturers, I would not be who and where I am today; I’ll forever be grateful.

SBSA will always have a special place in my heart, it was there that I first learned that I could do things I never thought possible. And even more importantly, it was the place where I learned to focus on my goals and ambitions on a deeper level which also boosted my motivation. Yes, I was part of something much, much bigger than myself, and discovered that the resulting feeling of responsibility can be not a burden, but a joy. I personally believe that the experience and wisdom I gained at SBSA is irreplaceable, the transition from teenager to young adult was mesmerizing. It had an immediate impact on our minds to act in a mature and professional way since we were treated as young adults by the staff.

To conclude, I can say that at SBSA you will laugh, you will cry, sometimes tear your hair out and you might get tired of studying, but in the end, everything is definitely worth it. You will come out with the knowledge of how to take your own responsibility, how to act professionally and even how to take care of your own accounting procedures, you can even have your own business one day. Cool right? SBSA helped me drop my bad habits of not studying and I started to cultivate good ones, as the lecturers always said ‘failing to plan, is planning to fail’ and that’s why to me, Seychelles Business Studies Academy will always be Seychelles Best Studying Academy!
